The front of this place is open and it seems there are millions of cars outside -- the busy Boulevard Montparnasse runs in front of the café, which is directly opposite the Galeries Lafayette and the Montparnasse Tower -- but the traffic noise is not at all obnoxious. There is dance music playing in the background, but enough people have filled up the place that the sound of a dozen conversations is more noticeable. The voices and music and cars all merge into a pleasant burble of sound.
My table is round, with a crusty, warped brass edge. The upholstery on the chairs and couches looks very old; the design looks like a combination of angular flowers and bonbons in dark and dirty blue, red and yellow. The ashtray is clear glass. The sugar was cubed. My cup and saucer have an ugly floral design on them bordered by little green x's.
