La Divette de Strasbourg

May 30, 2002

There are an awful lot of people just hanging around on the street corner. Some police were parked at this intersection for a while, but I couldn't tell what, if anything, was happening.

This is a nice place. I have a square table with a top that resembles brown flames. Behind me it sounds like someone is playing pinball, though I can't see what kind of game it is.

I have a green plastic Heineken ashtray on my table, slightly dirty. The coffee came with a tube of powdered sugar, so I will not be returning to this café if I can help it. The metal chairs have yellow ochre paint and light brown seat and back cushions. In front of me is a thin circular stone column covered with a mosaic of little mottled blue, red, black and beige squares in a random pattern. There are hexagonal lights above the bar and rectangular sheets of pink, green and gray stone along the front of the counter.

Across the street is the Sunshine boutique, but the letter "I" has fallen off of the name, so it's just "SUNSH NE." The outside of the store is covered with odd-shaped interlocking pieces of mirrored glass, and headless mannequins wearing women's suits stand in the window.
