Chez Clément

August 11, 2002 - 4:30 p.m.

Highly recommended. The outside tables that are set have red cloth napkins and large wine glasses atop blue, red and green plaid placemats. I am sitting outside at a square table whose top is composed of twelve pieces of wood. The ashtray is clear glass. The square of dark chocolate and packet of sugar cubes were personalized with the name of the place. The menu says that Chez Clément is "Your Restaurant of Charm," and I have to agree.

The outside tables are rather lightly serviced. An old woman couldn't wait and went inside to get two espressos which she carried back out herself. I was a little more patient and a man in a blue short-sleeved shirt made an appearance a few minutes later and took my order. Later on, a woman traveling with several bags and backpacks sat down for a few minutes before giving up and moving on down the road.

There's a line of fence sections doubling as plant boxes along the side of the café, and red umbrellas shade the outside tables farthest from the awning. I hear music playing softly. Above the awning, connected to wall of the building, is a row of what seem to be green oil rig-shaped trellis erupting at the top in copper pots.

Large trees shade the tables between the awning and the umbrellas. The chairs are pastel green metal, and the set tables under the awning have nice wooden benches. Charming indeed.
