Basically an Indiana Café with the added bonus of pool tables. I've already had an espresso (which was served with a tube of powdered sugar), but some babysitting money is burning a hole in my pocket so if I can get the waitress' attention I think I'll order some guacamole and chips as well. Unfortunately, I'm sitting outside, so it's not likely the waitress will be coming back...but just now three Americans showed up and sat down near me so I finally got her attention.
I did play pool here once, over two years ago, with a Polish woman I was taking French classes with. We came here fairly early in the evening, so the place was empty. I remember that my jeans were a little too loose-fitting that night, and I had neglected to wear a belt. Despite having to constantly hitch up my pants, I think I still won the games of pool, but maybe she let me win out of pity.
Tonight I have a round silver-edged table with a top the color of orange sherbert. My order of guacamole and chips has come and I know guacamole isn't that hard to make but I haven't eaten in a few hours and this stuff is like crack cocaine. There's a metro stop right in front of the place and a goodly amount of pedestrian traffic to and from the Montparnasse area. Everyone walking by turns their heads in the direction of the club and slows down at least slightly to see where the hip jazz music is emanating from (the front of the café is open). They're probably amazed that there's so happening a place on such an otherwise dead street.
