Le Rond Point

August 16, 2002 - 9:30 p.m.

When I got here I asked the guy behind the bar when the place closed, and he replied "Nine, nine-thirty, ten, who knows?" Then he and the men drinking at the bar laughed as though it were ridiculous for such information to be known in advance of the the fact. It was a warm day and I asked for a glass of water with my espresso, and the water I got was very cold. The espresso came with a maroon tube of powdered sugar. Later I splurged and ordered a Coke as well. I wish that I knew something that tasted better than Coke but I don't, so I can't help but drink it from time to time.

There was a manic white poodle here earlier. I have never seen such a hyperactive dog. It would start barking like crazy every time someone skated by, and unfortunately there were two boys (one on rollerblades and one on a skateboard) who seemed to be going around the block endlessly. The woman who owned the dog ordered an "ice tea," but asked for it without ice. Finally she and her demon dog left. The boys circled around the block a couple more times and then they went away. It's 10:00 o'clock now and a man in a yellow shirt is stacking up the outside chairs, so I guess I'm about to leave as well.
